Our Mission

Sourcewater’s mission is to build digital technologies that improve the reliability and efficiency of the upstream energy water supply chain while reducing environmental and community impacts.


Sourcewater was conceived by founder Josh Adler when he was a Sloan Fellow for Innovation and Global Leadership in the Energy Ventures program at MIT in 2012. Fascinated with the rise of unconventional energy development in the U.S., Josh saw that the water supply chain would become the primary constraint on and impact of the shale revolution and believed that the innovative application of new digital technologies could reduce the cost, risks and impact of upstream energy growth. Josh started recruiting a team and founded the company in early 2014, and moved to Houston, Texas in 2016, where the company is now headquartered.

Since its founding, Sourcewater has engaged with every aspect of the upstream water supply chain, from sourcing to logistics to recycling to disposal. We have over 1,000 registered users, with over 100,000 water and disposal listings online representing billions of barrels of capacity.

Sourcewater has been honored by IHS CERAWeek as an Energy Innovation Pioneer, by Imagine H2O as a Global Finalist, by the Oil & Gas Awards as New Technology of the Year, by Tudor, Pickering, Holt as an Energy Disruptor, by the CleanTech Open with the first CTO Water Prize, by SxSW Eco, by the Rice Energy Alliance, by MassChallenge, by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and by the Northeast Water Innovation Network, which named Adler its first Water Innovator of the Year.

Joshua A. Adler is a successful entrepreneur, angel investor, and veteran dealmaker who has founded energy, real estate, medical technology, and Internet companies, and served as a senior U.S. economic policy official for President George W. Bush. He is a graduate of Yale and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Dan Wallin
VP of Products

As Sourcewater's VP of Products, Dan manages the product design, strategy, lifecycle, and delivery. Additionally, he is responsible for leading & advancing the Development and Customer Success teams. Dan couples his passion for the oil & gas industry with bringing best-in-breed products to market. 

Stacy Brown
VP of Sales
As Sourcewater's VP of Sales, Stacy possesses a continuous record of increasing sales performance and market share while driving revenue within the oil & gas and technology industries. He enjoys sharing the expertise he has gained throughout his career to help emerging sales leaders and talent develop their own paths.
Dane Moorefield
VP of Marketing

As VP of Marketing, Dane is responsible for linking the innovations of the company’s product team to the customer-focused operations of the business units to build the Sourcewater brand, create consumer awareness and advocacy, and drive customer preference for the company. She specializes in the marketing of software, SaaS, and tech products.
